Surge Warranty

Confident in our ‘state of the art’ technology Masterplug Surge products come with a ‘Connected Equipment Warranty’.

In the unlikely event that a surge passes through this protection device within 3 years of purchase and damage occurs to the connected equipment, Masterplug will pay up to the amount shown on the product packaging to repair or replace the equipment. Masterplug stands by the quality of its Surge products.

What is Surge?
Hundreds of power surges can occur in your home and office every day. The switching on/off of fluorescent lights and household appliances like refrigerators, washing machines and tumble dryers can cause power surges and spikes.

An electrical device that is exposed to surges and spikes will either fail immediately, if the surge is large enough, or will fail after a period of time due to the continued strain exposed to them. The resulting damage can be catastrophic to electronic devices containing an integrated circuit, which nowadays is not just limited to PC’s, but home entertainment systems, electrical appliances, etc. Most new product warranties do not cover power surge damage. These surges and spikes can seriously damage electronic equipment. Even low energy surges can cause gradual component degradation leading to early hardware failure. Surges can cause computers to crash and corrupt software and data.

To stop these surges damaging equipment, Masterplug Power Protection products incorporate semi-conductor devices called Metal Oxide Varistors (MOV) and gas tubes, in our premium Master Series range, which act like a variable resistor. When no surges or spikes are present, the MOV allows electricity to flow normally, if a surge is detected the MOV diverts the surge harmlessly to earth.
How to claim
Call Masterplug Technical support on 03300 249 279 to register your claim. Masterplug will issue a returns authorisation number. Under no circumstances will a returned product be accepted without an authorisation number. Send your product to Masterplug for verification of surge damage. Address the packaging as follows:

Returns Authorisation Number: ………………………. (Please Complete)
Freepost Nexus,

Include a letter stating:

The code states:

  • What equipment you are claiming for under the ‘connected equipment’ warranty
  • How the equipment sustained damage
  • The date of occurrence
  • Include a copy of the warranty (A copy of warranty can be printed off at the end of registration)
  • Proof of purchase

Your claim must be made within 7 days of occurrence.

It may also be necessary to have the damaged connected equipment inspected by an authorised service centre and a report available (cost of which will be reimbursed if your claim is upheld.) This will be discussed with the help desk advisor when you call to register your claim. Masterplug will have your surge related, damaged ‘Connected Equipment’ inspected by their authorised service centre. If we determine that the product was damaged by a surge or AC line transient burst and the damage to the ‘Connected Equipment’ was caused by the performance failure of the transient voltage surge suppressor, then the terms and conditions of this warranty will be applicable.

No claim will be processed unless it has been approved in writing by Masterplug. You will be notified within 3 weeks of the status of your claim.
Terms and Conditions
The Masterplug Connected Equipment Warranty is subject to limitation and exclusions set forth herin. The warranty is additional to and shall not affect the consumer’s statutory rights under applicable national or state laws in force which cannot be excluded or modified, not the consumer’s rights against the retailer arising from its sales/purchase contract.
1. Masterplug will repair or replace, at its option, any equipment (“connected equipment”) that is damaged by a transient voltage surge or spike (an “Occurrence”), while properly connected through a Masterplug Surge Protector to a properly wired power line with protective Earth. Masterplug will spend, to repair or replace the damaged equipment as its option, an amount equal to the fair market value of the equipment or the original purchase price of the equipment, whichever is the less, up to the maximum stated for the particular product.

2. The Masterplug surge protector is NOT a lightning arrestor and will not protect against lightning strikes.

3. This warranty shall be null and void if the Masterplug surge protector has been improperly installed, altered in any way, tampered with, or if the connected equipment was not used under normal operating conditions or in accordance with any labels or instructions. All Masterplug surge protectors must be plugged directly into the power source and must not be ‘daisy-chained’ together in serial fashion with other power strips, UPSes, other surge protectors, or extension cables.

4. Masteplug reserves the rights to review the damaged Masterplug surge protector, the damaged equipment and the site where the damaged occurred. All costs of shipping the Masterplug Surge Protector and damaged equipment to Masterplug for inspection shall be borne initially by the purchaser. If the claim is approved, the cost of shipping will be reminbursed by Masterplug.
